The square was entitled to Friar Ristoro da Campi, an Italian monk and architect, of the Order of Preacher Friers. Following the inundation of 1264 he partecipated (together with Fra' Giovanni) the reconstruction of the Florentine bridges alla Carraia and Santa Trinita as well as the design of the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence (1279) and Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome (1282), the last one in cooperation with Fra' Sisto.

From Amerigo Vespucci Florence Airport
The airport is connected to Santa Maria Novella Central Railway Station by a bus transfer service called "Volainbus".
The bus operates every 30 minutes and it takes almost 25 minutes to reach the railway station.

By Car from the A1 freeway :
Exit at Calenzano-Sesto Fiorentino tollbooth and turn right and take the second exit at the roundabout following Via del Pratignone. Continue on Via Salvator Allende. At the end of Via Allende you will find a person of our staff waiting for you as previously agreed.
By Car from the A11 freeway :
- Exit at Prato Est tollbooth
- Take the Strada Provinciale 125 direction Florence
- Go over the Bisenzio river
- Conitnue on Via Fratelli Cervi
- At the following roundabout follow directions for Signa
- Continue on Viale Paolieri direction Florence
- At the roundabout you will find a person of our staff as previously agreed
